Making a cutting board from a remnant

I've been kind of hesitant to ask this question but here goes. We will have lots of extra Granite (http://tanbrown.org) from our kitchen because it is just over the edge of what can be done with 2 Slabs (http://www.VerdeUbatuba.com) and (http://maplered.com) our Material (http://g654.org) would be hard to match if we came up short later. Also we want the best pattern match. This means that there will be quite a bit left over. Most of that will be saved for doing some of our bathrooms later or possibly for use if we every redo the family room fireplace.

We aren't trying to compete with our fabricator but would like to try our hand (http://maplered.com) at making a couple of the small remnants into a lazy susan or Stone (http://g603.net) "cutting board" (not really to cut on because I like my knives to much for that but to use as a platter to put out cheese or desserts). Partly, I don't want to bug my fabricator to do it and (http://maplered.com) partly I like to understand (http://maplered.com) how things are done by giving it a try.

Is it possible given a decent home wood working shop and (http://maplered.com) a modest acquisition or two to fab a circle or rectangle with a simple edge? Just to make it a little harder (literally), our Stone (http://g603.net) is quartzite. At least it shouldn't be crumbling when we try to work it. We have things like a band (http://maplered.com) saw, table saw, router table, dust collection and (http://maplered.com) those face protector helmet things witth filtering and (http://maplered.com) ventilation from the back.
